Our Liberation War
Descriptive Questions

1. What did India contribute to our war of Liberation?
Ans: In the war of liberation of Bangladesh our neighboring country India's role was the most significant.
The contribution of India in our war of liberation are given below:
i) The Indian government provided food, clothes, shelter and medicines to the Bengali refugees in India.
ii) They gave military support at the end of the war. On 21st November, 1971 a combined military force was formed under Lt. Gen Aurora, called Mitrabahini.
iii) Indian govt. arranged the training for the freedom fighter.
iv) After Pakistani military attacked India on 3rd December, the combined force of Muktibahini and Mitrabahini attacked Pakistan by land, water and air routes.
v) The surrender document was signed at the Racecourse ground in Dhaka by Lt. Gen Nayzi of Pakistan and Lt. Gen Aurora of Mitrabahini.
vi) On 6th December, 1971, while the liberation was war going on, India was first to give recognition to Bangladesh.
As a neighbouring country India helped Bangladesh a lot to be an independent country by every way. With the help of India and for the bravery and sacrifice of the freedom fighters now we are an independent country in the map of world.

2. Who killed our intellectuals?
Ans: Upon the directives of President Yahiya on the night of 25th March, 1971 the Pakistani army attacked different places in Dhaka city. They also attacked other big cities in the country during that dreadful night. The code name of the attack was "Operation Searchlight." It has to be said that some Bengali joined the opposition. These included organizations called the Shanti Committee, Rajakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams. These traitors betraed the freedom fighter by telling the Pakistanis the names of the residences, giving directions, translating Bangla language and helping in the destruction. Finally, in December 1971, Pakistan made a plan to deprive Bangladesh of many of its intellectuals. Between 10 - 14 December many professors, doctors, teachers, artists, journalists and poets were captured and murdered. 

3. How do we now celebrate our independence?

Ans: The independence day of Banglaadesh in on 26th March, It is national holiday. The day is memorial to the deaths of thousands of civilians who died in the war of liberation.

i) The celebration begins with 31 gun salute tearing through the skies at the National Parade Ground at dawn.

ii) There are parades, political speeches, fairs, concerts and ceremonies.

iii) The educational institutions also organize Independence day programme.

iv) Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Beter and other private tv and radio channels broadcast special programs and patriotic songs.

v) The main streets, government and private buildings are decorated with the national flags. The whole country takes a festive look.

For the bravery and sacrifice of the freedom fighters now we are an independent country in the map of world. So it is our duty to show respect and love for our country and to the freedom fighters.

1. How did ordinary people participate in the liberation war?

Ans: During the war numerous common people stood beside the freedom fighters by taking risks of their lives. The participation of ordinary people in the liberation war are given below:

i) The male members actively took part in liberation war. Some helped the freedom fighters secretly.

ii) May women took training and fought frontal war.

iii) The ethnic minorities of the country actively participated in this war.

iv) During the war numerous common people inspired the freedom fighters to keep fighting by helping them with food, shelter, information and other essentials.

v) Cultural activists also played their part, raising awareness through writing, art and performances.

For the bravery and sacrifice of the freedom fighters now we are an independent country in the map of world. So it is our duty to show respect and love for our country and to the freedom fighters.

Ans: Showing respect to others' opinion is a major social quality. It is necessary to consider all the opinions to take a good decision. For class outing we can also take a decision collectively by the following ways:
a) We will express our opinions one by one.
b) We will listen to every opinion with patience.
c) We will respect each others' opinion.
d) We will follow the opinions of the majority.
e) We will try to achieve social values, such as - honesty, sense of justice, discipline, politeness, truthfulness etc.

Ans: No, it does not take much time to discuss everyone's opinion. We should allow others to express their when take a decision, because everyone's decision is valuable. After listening to the opinions of others, we should make a decision. Thus, there is no chance of debate and the work can be done in less period of time without any argument. Therefore, by tolerating the opinions of each other we can take a decision in the shortest period of time.

3. How can we express our opinions at home and at school? Explain it.
Ans: At home and at school, we need to do a variety of activities and sometimes we need to take decisions on some issues. We can express our own opinions at home and at school on the following issues:
At home:

c) Which topics to study etc.
